PUF Data Request

Thank you for your interest in the Dementia DataHub’s Public Use Files (PUFs). Direct download links for each year’s file are below.

Please keep in mind that the site’s variable inclusion, formatting, and suppression standards have changed slightly from year to year. Read the documentation and codebook for each year before you begin.

A few points deserve special attention:

  • The 2020 file does not include a Likely + Highly Likely sum as a variable. You will need to calculate it yourself, which is straightforward.
  • Beginning in 2021, we prioritized ages 65 and older and provide a summary total for that group. This means we do not provide an all-ages summation. We made this choice to minimize data suppression while still offering the 65+ total.
  • Read the codebooks carefully when calculating rates. It is easy to make mistakes with denominators. The correct denominator is beneficiaries for prevalence and incidence, and the prevalence count for everything else.
  • These are diagnosed cases only. Rates of diagnosis for the same underlying symptoms can, and probably do, vary considerably by place.

Thank you again for your interest in the system’s data. If you have additional questions, please email DementiaDataHub@norc.org.
